Accessible Taxi Awareness Initiative

Improving transportation access in Charlottetown

With support from the LIVE WELL PEI Wellness Grant, SCIPEI launched a focused initiative to better understand the transportation barriers faced by people with mobility challenges in Charlottetown.

What we used the funding for

  • Designing and distributing a community survey on accessible taxi needs
  • Running a social media awareness campaign
  • Hosting community consultation session

What we achieved

  • Over 150 people completed the survey
  • We gathered detailed, communitydriven data on gaps in accessible taxi services
  • We held structured discussions with residents, caregivers, and disability advocates
  • We compiled the findings into a report and presented the results at the provincial level,
ensuring decisionmakers heard directly from the community

Identifying barriers — and solutions — across PEI

Improving accessibility access in Charlottetown

Thanks to the LIVE WELL PEI Wellness Grant, SCIPEI launched a provincewide
accessibility review survey to better understand where people encounter barriers in their daily
lives.

What we used the funding for

  • Developing a userfriendly accessibility survey
  • Printing materials and distributing the survey across PEI
  • Outreach through disability organizations, seniors’ groups, and community partners
  • Collecting and analyzing stories, examples, and priority locations for review

What we achieved

  • Islanders shared their experiences with accessibility — from businesses and parks to sidewalks and public buildings
  • We identified dozens of locations that community members want reviewed first
  • We collected powerful stories about both barriers and positive accessibility experiences
 Why it matters

This project gives SCIPEI a clear, communitydriven roadmap for accessibility improvementsacross the province. The voices collected will shape future reviews, advocacy, and partnershipsaimed at building a more inclusive PEI.
